The 麻豆社 National Orchestra of Wales are in the spotlight across this week, but the programme opens with live music from Wigmore Hall with the Juilliard Quartet playing Beethoven.
The 麻豆社 National Orchestra of Wales are the in the spotlight across this week, starting today with performance from Cardiff of Tchaikovsky's profoundly romantic Violin Concerto. Also in this week's line-up, highlights from the recent Baroque series of concerts from LSO St Luke's - "Ornaments of the Baroque". But the programme opens with live music from Wigmore Hall and the Juilliard Quartet playing music by Beethoven and J枚rg Widmann. Today's programme is presented by Tom McKinney.
With its enigmatic changes of mood, Beethoven鈥檚 late String Quartet in B flat stands among the great peaks of musical Romanticism. J枚rg Widmann鈥檚 Eighth Quartet, completed in 2020, pays tribute to Beethoven in a movement based on the charming 鈥楪erman dance鈥 from that same piece and was commissioned by the Juilliard String Quartet.
