Main content

First episode of this 1954 magazine show. Take a look at life back in Northern Ireland 70 years ago, including the loss of the Belfast tram line.

This first episode in the 1954 magazine series includes features on the building of Northern Ireland's first permanent television transmitter, the visit of the Duchess of Gloucester to the Kings Own Scottish Borderers at Ballykinler camp. The programme looks at how trams are being replaced by trolleybuses in Belfast, plus the impact poor weather conditions have had on the potato and apple harvests. There's also a look at the work being done to improve Portavogie harbour and a visit to Lord and Lady Brookeborough prior to their trip to Australia.
