Clare joins a long established group as they embark on their 100th walk. Their route takes them from Leigh Woods, under the Clifton Suspension Bridge, and into the heart of Bristol.

They call themselves The Old Lags, and every member was responsible during their careers for keeping our lights on and our kettles boiled as employees of the Central Electricity Generating Board.

They鈥檙e all retired now and David Miller, who runs the Old Lags, is certain they鈥檇 have lost touch had it not been for their shared love of a good stomp.

They met at Leigh Woods on the south western side of Bristol and quickly reached a viewpoint stretching across the Avon Gorge, which is crossed by the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. From there they walked down Nightingale Valley to reach the River Avon where they strolled along the river-bank into the noisy and active harbour-side area of the city.
