Pigeon Clock

Episode 24 of 30

Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including a Georgian painter鈥檚 box, a butter churn, some WWII silk maps, a wooden stool and a pigeon clock.

Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room's home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.

First through the doors is Jeronime and her daughters Aquella and Neha. The antique painter鈥檚 box Jeronime brings in has been with her since she was a student, but the date Simon believes it was made is much earlier than Jeronime anticipated. Now it鈥檚 down to her and her daughters to master the art of haggling in front of the astute dealers.

Next in is Lee, hoping his pastoral piece will churn up some reasonable bids from the dealers. Can the story behind Lee鈥檚 butter churn and very first auction purchase butter up the dealers enough to make Lee a healthy profit for a charity local to him.

Third to navigate her way to Edinburgh HQ with a collection of silk maps from WWII is Elisa. Since buying the fascinating maps, some of which have been fashioned into clothing items, her slice of British wartime history has been stored away in a cupboard. Elise is hoping WWII expert Jacqui, or indeed any of the other dealers, will see the value in giving the maps the right place to display them.

Fourth into the room is Simon, with a wooden stool that鈥檚 got the dealers puzzled. The unusual perch, bought at auction by Simon, doesn鈥檛 fit into his living room as well as he had expected. But can any of the buyers see it fitting in with their own collections?

Finally, and just in time to show the dealers something a little bit fancy, it鈥檚 Frances. She鈥檚 selling her husband鈥檚 pigeon racing clock now that he鈥檚 retired from the sport in hopes of raising some money for their 50th wedding anniversary celebrations. Will this little piece of racing history make our dealers tick?

The dealers today are Jon, Melissa, Adi, Jacqui and JB.
