Mahler's Fifth Symphony
The 麻豆社 Scottish Symphony Orchestra and their chief conductor Ryan Wigglesworth tackle Mahler's magnificent Fifth Symphony, and a new work by Helen Grime.
Ryan Wigglesworth conducts the 麻豆社 Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Mahler's Fifth Symphony. It opens with an ominous fanfare: the first step on a journey through midnight storms, leaping horn-calls, and a tender musical love-letter. And the concert begins with new music by Helen Grime. Taking inspiration from Zoe Gilbert鈥檚 novel 'Folk' and drawing on Scottish, Irish and Manx folklores, she creates an extraordinary song-cycle for soprano and orchestra, performed by Claire Booth.
Recorded in September at City Halls, Glasgow
