Open Botanic & Coming out twice
The Open Botanic Festival literally stopping the traffic in inner city Belfast, and Elaine Macgoughan talks about having to come out twice in 1970s Belfast.
It is only a couple of weeks since the Botanic area was all over socials for the wrong reasons, so how has that affected the preparations for this year's Open Botanic event? Lynette is joined in studio by 4 women who are at the heart of the community and stopping the traffic on Sunday. Listen to Briege Arthurs, Joanne Hoy, Angela Miller and Oluwaseyi Oluwalana.
And Elaine Macgoughan talks about having to "come out twice" in 1970s Belfast. She is now in her early 60s and says that being visually impaired & a member of the LGBTQ+ community was tough when she was a teenager, but she is talking openly about it now to help others. She is joined by the RNIB's 脷na Mulgrew who says it is all about "seeing the person and not the disability".
And Elaine says joining the group that RNIB set up has been "life saving".
Incredible testimonies. All that plus top tunes, including Lainey Wilson & Shakespears Sister.
