Dvorak's Gypsy Melodies from Niamh O'Sullivan

Violinist Geneva Lewis joins accordionist Ryan Corbett at the Â鶹Éç studios in Bloch's Baal Shem, and Niamh O'Sullivan sings Dvorak's Gypsy Melodies in Birmingham.

Geneva Lewis joins Ryan Corbett at the Â鶹Éç studios in an arrangement for violin and accordion of one of Ernest Bloch's haunting Pictures from Chassidic Life. That's followed by Dvorak's Gypsy Melodies, which pay homage to the sounds of his beloved Moravia. That set includes ‘Songs My Mother Taught Me’, which became one of his most widely arranged pieces. The charismatic mezzo, Niamh O'Sullivan sang them in Birmingham earlier this year at the Barber Lunchtime Series. And, to end, a melancholic tune which has become almost the unofficial anthem of Georgia.
