Born in Chiba, Japan, in 1952, Keiji Haino has spent his life experimenting with the sound of guitar and voice, becoming a musical (and style) icon for the international underground and avant-garde scenes. Over his long career, which began in the 鈥70s, he created several rock and psychedelic-garage outlets and collaborated with artists such as Faust, Peter Br枚tzmann, Bill Laswell, Merzbow and John Zorn, all the while building an impressive record collection which spans early electro-acoustic music to punk. Haino-san has pulled out some of his favourites for Late Junction, including music from a Vietnamese string quartet and a psychedelic track offering a remedy for when 鈥測ou are feeling blue鈥.

Elsewhere in the show, moments from a 鈥60s Stockhausen composition for voice, the latest sounds courtesy of East Anglian composer-improviser Laura Cannell, and Glassy computer music by Montreal's Camp, aka David Turgeon. Plus a special extract from experimental vocalist, movement artist and composer Elaine Mitchener's These Cost the Earth, a new performance work that reflects upon the textile waste crisis, examining the environmental and human cost of discarding clothes to landfill recorded live at Assembly Festival, which took place at Somerset House, London, at the end of March.
