The sounds of the French Caribbean with Vincent Frederic and Sylvere (La Creole), San Farafina (Moonshine), Lazy Flow and Jocelyne Béroard (Kassav').

In Jamz Supernova’s Global Sounds, Jamz dives into a music scene from around the world to uncover a place's unique identity and music. She speaks to artists and creatives to find out what their particular scene looks, sounds and feels like on the ground.

In this episode, Jamz explores the French Caribbean through the diaspora in France and Montreal and depicts the genres that define the music today. Jamz chats with Vincent Frederic, one of the co-founders of the collective and party whose mission is rooted in Edouart Glissant’s concept of the ‘‘Tout-Monde’’, and Sylvere, one of the resident DJs at La Creole parties who discusses how French Caribbean music influences his sound as a DJ and producer. There are words from French DJ and producer Lazy Flow and insight into how French Caribbean music is received and celebrated in Montreal from San Farafina of the Moonshine Collective. Also, we hear from Jocelyne Béroard, one of the original members of the Martinique/Guadeloupe band Kassav', a band who created the sound of Zouk and has flown the flag for French Creole, selling albums and touring in no less than 83 countries around the world.

Across the four-part series, Jamz will be exploring themes and music from South Africa (from Kwaito to Amapiano), South Asia (tracing the roots through the diaspora on dancefloors across the world), French Creole (Martinique, Guadeloupe and surrounding areas - looking at how the music has transported, been remixed and is being celebrated in the diasporas in Europe), and Barranquilla Carnival: Colombia (taking a deep dive into one of Colombia's most important folkloric celebrations, and one of the biggest carnivals in the world).
