鈥楢s I strolled past the Foundling Hospital in Bloomsbury the other day I thought of the many babes who had lain in the basket outside the Hospital's gate: and of the many footsteps that had hurried away from that spot, leaving a small life behind them.

Of one set of footsteps in particular, and the strange story with its mystery and its terror, which began in 1835, on a chill November night....'

Two babies at London鈥檚 Foundling Hospital are given the same name with disastrous consequences.

Written by Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins for the London stage in 1867.
