Two masterworks from the classical era: Haydn鈥檚 'Bird' Quartet (1781), so-called because of the repeated notes the violin plays at the very opening; coupled with Mozart's The String Quartet in D major, K. 499 (1786), written for his good friend, the publisher Franz Anton Hoffmeister.
