Under Pressure
Summer visitors put the teams under strain. There’s a race against the tide to save an injured power kiter. A freak storm delays an ambulance reaching a medical emergency.
In the beautiful but wild landscape of Eryri, also known as Snowdonia, a huge influx of visitors in summer ramps up pressure on already-stretched emergency teams. Traeth y Graigddu (Black Rock Sands) is packed on a sunny bank holiday when a power kiter breaks his collarbone after crashing onto rock-hard sand. The coastguard team stationed at the beach face ambulance and air ambulance delays as everywhere is so busy, plus a race against the tide to get him to safety.
In the mountains, there’s no let-up either – especially for one volunteer rescuer who responds to two separate emergencies on the same mountain in just 24 hours. And when a woman starts experiencing heart problems in a remote part of Eryri, it’s clear she needs medical help – and fast. The queue of bank holiday 999 calls and a freak summer storm threaten the agencies’ efforts to get her to hospital.
