Making Baubles, Fighting Words and Slug Racing

John meets Amelia McFarland, who returned to rugby after treatment for breast cancer. Adele Pound makes Christmas decorations, and young writers bring Fighting Words to the studio.

Amelia McFarland was born in London and grew up between Moscow and Donegal. She has taken over her family home at Dunmore Gardens, turning it into a popular venue for weddings, and has recently signed for Blackrock College rugby team. In 2022, aged 32, Amelia was diagnosed with breast cancer. She tells John about her diagnosis, treatment and return to the field, as well as growing up racing slugs at Dunmore Gardens. Artist Adele Pound coaches John through making Christmas tree decorations, young writers from a new Fighting Words creative hub in Belfast share some of their work & comedian Emer McGinnity looks ahead to her very first headline gigs. Paula cooks squash, chestnut and spinach pithivier with black garlic gravy.
