Radio 3鈥檚 week of lunchtime concerts from Schwarzenberg in the Austrian mountains, continues with Schubert鈥檚 Sonata in A minor, D821, 'Arpeggione'.

Sarah Walker presents highlights of this year鈥檚 Schubertiade, a celebration of Schubert鈥檚 music held in the Austrian village of Schwarzenberg, famed for its traditional rustic wooden houses. The concerts took place in the Angelika Kauffmann Hall, a handsome timber-framed building overlooking idyllic mountain pastures, whose exquisite acoustics and intimate atmosphere make it an ideal venue for Schubert鈥檚 chamber music.

Today鈥檚 programme features the Sonata in A minor, D821, originally written for the arpeggione, a short-lived cross between the guitar and the cello.
