Radio 3鈥檚 week of concerts from Schwarzenberg in the Austrian mountains continues with piano music by Schubert and CPE Bach, played by Francesco Piemontesi and Marc Andre Hamelin.
Sarah Walker presents highlights of this year鈥檚 Schubertiade, a celebration of Schubert鈥檚 music held in the Austrian village of Schwarzenberg, famed for its traditional rustic wooden houses. The concerts took place in the Angelika Kauffmann Hall, a handsome timber-framed building overlooking idyllic mountain pastures, whose exquisite acoustics and intimate atmosphere make it an ideal venue for Schubert鈥檚 chamber music.
Today鈥檚 programme features the last of sonata that Schubert published during his lifetime. It was particularly admired by Schumann, who called it 鈥減erfect in form and conception".
