Ann an 2015, gheall Prìomh Mhinistear na h-Alba aig an àm, Nicola Sturgeon, gun deidheadh beàrn coileanaidh an fhoghlaim a dhùnadh ro 2026. Thuirt i gun robh i airson 's gum biodh a h-ùine san dreuchd a' crochadh air seo fhaighinn ceart. Tha Riaghaltas na h-Alba air grunn cheumannan a ghabhail gus feuchainn ris a bheàrn a dhùnadh agus bacaidhean a thoirt air falbh a tha a' cumail clann nas bochda air ais, ach tha na partaidhean dùbhlanach ag ràdh gum bu chòrr barrachd a bhith air a dhèanamh.

Air ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹ na seachdain-sa, tha Anndra MacFhionghain a' bruidhinn ri daoine a tha a' feuchainn ri beàrn coileanaidh an fhoghlaim a dhùnadh ann an Alba, riuthasan air a bheil e bualadh, agus ri eòlaichean a tha den bheachd gur e atharrachadh radaigeach a tha a dhìth gus am bi a h-uile sgoilear a' coileanadh ann am foghlam.

In 2015, the then First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, promised to close the education attainment gap before 2026. She said she wanted her time in office to be defined by this mission statement. Tha gap is still there, although the First Minister in question is not. The attainment gap in education in Scotland is largely caused by poverty, with pupils from more deprived backgrounds less likely to do well in school, in comparison to children from less deprived households. The Scottish Government has implemented numerous measures in an attempt to close the gap and remove barriers which hold more deprived pupils back, although opposition parties say more should have been done.

On this week's ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹, Andrew MacKinnon speaks to those who are trying to close the attainment gap in Scotland, those who are affected by it, and to experts who believe radical change is needed so that all school children are achieving, on a level playing field.
