Bidh sinn cuideachd a’ coinneachadh ri caractaran inntinneach a tha gu bhith a’ gabhail pà irt san fharpais òrain Ghà idhlig seo – leithid Pamela Jean Agaloos à Queens a tha a’ seinn Òran Chaluim Sgà ire là n faireachdainn is i air oideachadh fhaighinn bho Chairistìona Primrose! No John Grimaldi a tha ainmeil am measg Albannaich nan Stà itean agus a bhios a’ seinn ann an còmhlan de dh’ fhireannaich air a bheil an t-ainm Na h-Eileanaich (uill, tha e a’ fuireach ann an Eilean Mhanhattan, agus tha na seinneadairean eile a’ fuireach ann an Eilean Staton!) Tha cuid de na co-fharpaisich a’ siubhal à Utah, Virginia ’s Washington DC agus tha fiù ’s cuideigin à Glaschu a’ gabhail pà irt a’ riochdachadh na h-Alba!
Bidh Â鶹Éç ALBA an sin airson an sgeulachd eachdraidheil seo ann an ceòl Gà idhlig a leantainn agus thathas an dòchas gum bi muinntir nam Mòdan agus daoine a tha taiceil don chà nan sna Stà itean a’ frithealadh an tachartais seo san à m ri teachd! Tha a’ chiad neach a bhuannaicheas Mòd Seachdain Thartain New York gu bhith na rionnag ùr ann an saoghal na Gà idhlig ach an dùil cò an neach a bhios soirbheachail?
Joy Dunlop heads to New York City to host the first ever New York Mòd. As part of the 25th New York Tartan Week celebration, Trusadh joins the Scottish diaspora of this iconic city to celebrate links to Scotland with thousands of pipers and Highland dancers taking the Manhattan streets by tartan storm. There are Gaelic singers in the mix too, from all over the USA and also Scotland.
We follow Joy, An Comunn Gà idhealach and the Tartan Week team in the build-up to the Mòd event - which includes workshops, fèis style events and cèilidh sessions. We meet some of the colourful characters who are entering this Gaelic Song Contest - such as Pamela Jean Agaloos from Queens who sings Oran Chaluim Sgà ire with passion having been taught by Christine Primrose! Or John Grimaldi who is legendary in Scottish circles in the USA and sings in an all-male ensemble called Na h-Eileanaich (well he does live in Manhattan Island, and his fellow singers live in Staton Island!) Other entrants are travelling from Utah, Virginia and Washington DC. There is even a Glaswegian entrant flying the flag for Scotland!
Â鶹Éç ALBA follows a momentous moment in Gaelic music's legacy and it is hoped that this becomes a 'must attend' event in the future for indigenous ‘Moddies’ and USA-based language aficionados alike! The winner of the first ever New York Tartan Week Mod is going to be Gaelic's newest superstar – tune in to find out who that will be!
