Accordionist Martynas Levickis with sounds from the forest and the solar system

Accordionist Martynas Levickis reveals familiar and unfamiliar works in a new light, including music by two Gustavs: cheeky intergalactic bassoons from Holst, and Mahler remixed.

Since winning Lithuania鈥檚 Got Talent in 2010, Martynas Levickis has become one of the most sought-after accordion soloists in the world and an ambassador for his instrument.

He explains how he first learned to play a tiny accordion aged three whilst wandering around the forests of Lithuania and chooses music that paints a musical picture of that scene by Lithuanian composer and painter Mikalojus Konstantinas C虒iurlionis.

Martynas also performs an arrangement he made of music by Philip Glass, explains how he learned to love the symphonies of Gustav Mahler and enjoys some 鈥渞ock n鈥 roll鈥 Vivaldi.

Plus he selects two pianists who are unafraid of doing things their own way, Francesco Tristano and James Rhodes.

A series in which each week a musician explores a selection of music - from the inside.
