A taste of chamber music from the Edinburgh International Festival

The Castalian Quartet plays Janacek鈥檚 first string quartet 鈥榓fter Tolstoy鈥檚 Kreutzer Sonata鈥�, reflecting the novella鈥檚 dark and violent story of a broken marriage. Next, the quartet give a world premiere of music by one of the most widely-performed composers of his generation, English composer Mark-Anthony Turnage. Pianist colleagues and friends Leif Ove Andsnes and Bertrand Chamayou play music for four hands on one piano; Schubert鈥檚 Fugue in E minor and violinist Clara-Jumi Kang performs a virtuosic finale with Ysaye鈥檚 Sonata No 6, filled with Spanish tangos and habaneras for its dedicatee, the Spanish violinist Manuel Quiroga.
