Conor explores intergenerational trauma and how it manifests in a post-conflict society through the experiences and creative writings of ScrÃbhneoirà an tSléibhe, a Belfast based creative writing group set up to tackle mental health problems faced by members of the community. Conor aims to expand on his own understanding of the society he grew up in to help him work towards his ambition of becoming a writer.
This episode features Fionnuala Nà Mhealláin, writer and a primary school teacher working in the Irish medium sector with a particular interest in drama and music. She was raised through Irish in Belfast and some of her family were involved in the establishment of the Shaw’s Road, west Belfast urban Gaeltacht.
