Cerys has an eclectic Sunday soundtrack and welcomes Malawi dance folk duo Madalitso Band in session. She also shares some of her favourite picks from The Ocean Film Festival.

Cerys has an eclectic Sunday soundtrack and welcomes Malawi dance folk duo Madalitso Band live in session from Maida Vale. The two-man band met 20 years ago and decided to start making their own instruments to try and imitate the sounds they heard on the radio. Their latest single is ‘Gule Wakwathu’ (translation: “Our Dance”), which came out earlier this week, and their last album Musakayike (translation: “Don’t Hesitate”) came out in June 2022 via Bongo Joe.

Cerys also shares some of her favourite picks from The Ocean Film Festival, which features a collection of short films starring seafaring voyages, extreme watersports and marine conservation from the least-explored depths of the planet and will take place from September to November, beginning on 19th September at MAST Mayflower Studios in Southampton through to its last date on 23rd November at Christchurch’s Regent Centre.

Also, Joe Acheson aka Hidden Orchestra fills us in on his latest projects, and broadcaster, journalist and authority on Japanese music Nick Luscombe gives us the lowdown on an upcoming compilation celebrating “the space funk, jazz and disco sound of genius Japanese producer” Yuji Ohno.
