Pianist Emma Abbate reveals familiar and unfamiliar works in a new light, from a rare recording of Elgar at the piano, to arias that explore complex human psychology.

Today on Inside Music, pianist Emma Abbate looks at music from fresh angles: Brahms鈥檚 Clarinet Trio reveals his tender and lyrical style, a piano concerto by Nino Rota celebrates his output beyond film music, and a song by Ildebrando Pizzetti shows that there is a lot more to Italian music than the operatic stereotype.

Emma also admires Handel鈥檚 deep understanding of the psychological turmoil of the character Alcina, and Caroline Shaw鈥檚 hypnotising string quartet 鈥楨ntr鈥檃cte鈥� draws her in with a repeated motif.
