Borders

The definitive pipe music programme, featuring news and recordings from the piping world.

In the year in which the revival of Scottish bellows piping celebrates its 40th anniversary, Gary West explores some of the music which has emerged from this renaissance, with tunes from Gordon and Shona Mooney, Iain MacInnes and Calum Stewart. ‘Double headers’ are also very much in the air, with two helpings of fine music from Dublin based pipe band, the St Lawrence O’Toole, and from one of the giants of 20th century highland piping, the late John MacDougall. One of today’s masters treats us to a pibroch from deepest Perthshire, as Roddy MacLeod performs the Little Spree, while the MacKenzie Caledonian Pipe Band and the Treacherous Orchestra take the mood from laid back chill to full blown dance beats respectively.
