Sally Magnusson presents conversations with authors Sarah Moss, Henry Marsh, Gwen Adshead, Angela Gallup and Jenni Fagan recorded at the Edinburgh International Book Festival 2022

Sally Magnusson presents extended conversations recorded at the Edinburgh International Book Festival 2022.

Sarah Moss joins Sally to reflect on the experience of lockdown in her eighth novel, 'The Fell'. Set in the Peak District, the novel follows four characters – in particular, the mother of a worrisome teenager – negotiating safety, fellow feeling and freedom in the context of government edicts and creeping anxiety.

Retired neurosurgeon Henry Marsh discusses his powerful new book 'And Finally' in which he describes his transition from doctor to patient following a diagnosis of a terminal illness. It's a raw and honest account of his career in medicine and dealing with his own mortality.

Gwen Adshead and Angela Gallop sit down with Sally to explore different perspectives on the world of the crime. In 'The Devil You Know', Adshead relays her experiences as a forensic psychiatrist providing therapy to those who’ve committed violence. In Gallop's case 'How to Solve a Crime' explores her career as a forensic scientist, what she looks for in a crime scene and how crimes are really solved.

And Jenni Fagan discusses her latest novella 'Hex' which retells the true story of Geillis Duncan – one of the first women accused in the North Berwick Witch Trials at the end of the 16th century.
