Dyslexia
With the growth of Gaelic medium education over recent years, Alasdair Macleod considers the amount of support available to children with additional needs in the Gaelic education system, especially children with dyslexia. There is concern amongst some that there are insufficient resources in the Gaelic medium education system for dyslexic children, and that there is a desperate need for more support staff in schools to assist children with their learning. ·¡Ã²°ù±è²¹ also speaks to parents of children in Gaelic medium who do not themselves speak Gaelic, and the particular difficulties they experience when their child is assessed as dyslexic.

Slave trade

Slave trade
Activists in Portugal have been calling for greater recognition for the role the country played in the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, at a time when more European countries are acknowledging their own role in this dark chapter in history.

Portugal was at the fore of the African slave-trade, beginning in the 15th century. They were the first European country to send slaves across the ocean to Brazil, one of their colonies at the time. This practice continued for hundreds of years, with Portugal responsible for transporting nearly 6 million slaves to the Americas.

Andrew MacKinnon is in Lisbon reporting on the legacy of slavery in the country and what people there think should be done to acknowledge Portugal's role. Some people see that the legacy of slavery directly feeds into problems of racism today.
