Pipers Past and Present
The definitive pipe music programme, featuring news and recordings from the piping world.
Gary West introduces an eclectic mix of bagpipe music spanning the period from the 1960s to the present day, with contributions from the Johnstone Pipe Band, the Queen’s Own Highlanders, Allan MacDonald, Sarah Muir and Duncan Lyall. Representing the pipes-led folk genre are Hebridean bands Trail West and Harta, while one of the great piping gurus of the twentieth century Captain John MacLellan, treats us to a lively march, strathspey and reel recorded almost half a century ago. And there’s news from a recent contest held in his name at the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming in Edinburgh.
