Salman Rushdie
Ahead of a new series, a timely repeat of Edi's classic interview with Salman Rushdie who talked candidly about life before and after publication of The Satanic Verses.
Thirty years on from the first time he heard the word 鈥榝atwa鈥, Booker prize winning author Salman Rushdie talked to Edi Stark about the catastrophic repercussions of writing The Satanic Verses and how indebted he remains to the late Scottish MP Robin Cook who, as foreign secretary, helped immeasurably to end his days in hiding.
As he continues his road to recovery after being stabbed at a book event in New York a few weeks ago, this revealing interview, recorded two years ago gives great insight into how he learned to live with a death threat. He also discusses his childhood in Bombay, choosing to come to boarding school in England, love, marriages and fatherhood 鈥nd why he now lives in America.
