Tom chats to Nigerian DJ and producer Sensei Lo ahead of her Friday Night Global mix and Robin Perkins who runs the ‘A Guide to the Birdsong' series.
Sensei Lo began her DJing career in Lagos in 2014 and has since performed at the Chale Wote Art festival in Accra 2016 - 2018, BUDX Abuja, and at Glastonbury Festival in 2020. She is part of the Lagos-based Afro Electronic DJ Collective known The Village Sound System and is the resident DJ at Bounce Radio Live.
She released her ‘Pisces Moon’ EP in February.

A Guide to the Birdsong began in 2014 when Robin was toying with the idea of using birdsong as a source of inspiration and specific species rather than just generic birdsong. He began thinking of the role culture and music could play in the environmental movement and stumbled into this simple but beautiful idea: invite a group of producers or musicians from one region and match them with a group of endangered bird species.
'A Guide to the Birdsong of South America' came out in 2015, followed by Mexico, Central America & the Caribbean in 2020 and now Western Africa.
