Remembering a royal visit to Ballymoney, meeting the Queen in person, and a yarn about a family’s Lambeg drum and a windmill.

Recalling the Queen’s visit to Ballymoney and chats about pipe bands and the story that connects a Lambeg drum to Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee and Ballycopeland Windmill.

Recalling royal occasions for the Platinum Jubilee, Eva Skelton remembers her P1 class going to see the Queen during her brief visit to Ballymoney in 1953 while Willie Laverty has a poem about the visit.
Brian Wilson talks about performing for Her Majesty at Balmoral twice – and their conversation about pipe bands, a subject which also cropped up when Mervyn Herron received his MBE from the Queen at Holyrood.

Gibson Young has a story of a Lambeg drum that celebrates the Magill family’s connection to the newly refurbished Ballycopeland Windmill – and has a link back to Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.

Helen Mark, Rab Lennox and Willie Hill complete the team this week and as always, they love to hear from listeners with their comments about the programme, an Ulster-Scots yarn to share or event to promote. Email them at kintra@bbc.co.uk.
