Honours in Piping
Gary West celebrates some of the pipers and drummers recognised in the Queen’s Birthday honours list, including Iain MacFadyen and the brothers, Tom and Peter Anderson.
Gary West introduces more top quality piping and drumming, past and present, and helps to celebrate the music of those players recently recognised in the Queen’s Birthday honours list including Iain MacFadyen from Kyle of Lochalsh, and the Falkirk brothers, Tommy and Peter Anderson, all of whom have received the British Empire Medal. Iain’s contribution to the programme comprises two tracks recorded in session for the Â鶹Éç in 1985, including his interpretation of the harvest-related pibroch, Grain in Hides and Corn in Sacks. There are solo highland piping sets too from Robert Wallace and Brian Donaldson, pipe band music from the Boghall and Bathgate and Wallacestone and District, uillean piping from Cormac Cannon and Tom Delany, while the folk music genre is represented by innovative all rounders, Ross Miller and Lorne MacDougall.
