Following all the celebrations of the Resurrection on Easter Day, this the first Sunday after Easter is often referred to as 鈥淟ow Sunday鈥. It's a day when traditionally numbers in church congregations would be lower and, perhaps, there鈥檚 a bit of a sense of anti-climax. But the Easter season has another four weeks to run.
During our service today, we return to that first Easter. The tomb where Jesus has been buried is empty save for a linen cloth and there鈥檚 a lot of bewilderment and despondency about. What had happened to Jesus ? As we hear, his friends realise Jesus is alive and they begin to get an idea of what that might mean for them. More than 2000 years later, with the pandemic still with us, a rise in the cost of living and the war in Ukraine, Cathy Gale considers what the Easter message has to say to our divided and distracted world.
Readings are taken from the Gospel according to Luke Chapter 24. Hymns include 'Christ is alive, let Christians sing', 'The Day of Resurrection' and 'Lord of the dance'.
