A group of orphans trapped behind Russian lines are dramatically rescued by a special team of American and British military vets. Journalist Sue Mitchell follows as events unfold.
This edition of The Untold follows the dramatic rescue of a group of orphans in Ukraine. As they are carried from a shelter and the sounds of bombs echo in the distance, Journalist Sue Mitchell stays alongside them. They have been trapped for two weeks and for the last few days have been without food. Three of their teachers were killed when they left the shelter to get provisions. What happens to these children now?
In the chaos of war there were fears that orphans were being taken across borders and left without a proper trail to track they were safe. The Government in Ukraine has now put two American charities, Aerial Recovery and New Horizon for Children, in charge of the rescue and safety of the countries 100,000 orphans. This programme follows what that looks like for a group trapped in an area targeted by Russian troops. The children will be supported through the rescue and afterwards, but what have they experienced and what will happen to them longer term?
