A joyous exploration via music and poetry: Roger Robinson

Cerys handpicks you 3 hours of eclectic music from her collection. Plus she welcomes Roger Robinson to the Poet Tree to discuss his writing, inspirations and influences.

Cerys handpicks you 3 hours of eclectic music ranging from blues, jazz, folk, soul, funk and beats. This week's selection features some 70's Japanese jazz flute, new music from Israel's Satellites, Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio and Sam Redmore.

She welcomes another poet to the Poet Tree to discuss their writing, inspirations and influences. This month it's Roger Robinson, who was suggested by January's guest Raymond Antrobus.

Roger Robinson won the 2019 T.S. Eliot prize for his collection A Portable Paradise. He was chosen by Decibel as one of 50 writers who have influenced the black-British writing canon. He has received commissions from The National Trust, London Open House, 麻豆社, The National Portrait Gallery, V&A, and Theatre Royal Stratford East, where he also was associate artist. His first collection of poems, Suitcase, was published by Flipped Eye in October 2004. Roger discusses the relationship between melody, lyrics and poetry, picking tracks from Gil Scott-Heron, Joni Mitchell and Linton Kwesi Johnson.

Following on from last week's St Dwynwen's Day, Cerys brings you part two of a fishy theme with classics from John Martyn, Steve Hillage, Ibibio Sound Machine and Zara Macfarlane. And Cerys delves into the 麻豆社 Archive to find the voice of British composer and electronic musician Daphne Oram and pays tribute to the late Lata Mangeshkar, one of India's most beloved singers, whose voice is the soundtrack to more than a thousand Bollywood films.
