Today on the programme we鈥檙e focusing on the UK's care homes and what it鈥檚 like working in them. Last night the first episode of Ed Balls' new 麻豆社 2 two part documentary hit our screens, in which he spent some time living and working in a care home. The former cabinet minister is finding out what it鈥檚 really like working on the front line, caring for elderly and vulnerable people.
Britain's care homes have faced huge challenges in the last 2 years. There have been calls for much better funding. Many homes have closed as businesses decide it's no longer possible to operate commercially. Many staff have complained of low pay and really demanding work. During the pandemic, care homes have faced more difficulties, with high death rates among their residents, and staffing problems too. From Thursday, all care staff in England MUST be double vaccinated against Covid or lose their jobs. Around 89% of staff working in older age care homes had received two vaccine doses as of October 31st, according to NHS England.
