Mor-Longan - Biastan nan Cuantan/Superships - Giants of the Sea
Following some of the shipping giants of the seas on their journeys. Cuid de dh'fhuamhairean nan cuantan air an turais.
Ships are central to the global economy. As they traverse the seas transporting 90% of the world's goods, they produce more greenhouse gases than a country the size of Germany. This programme follows some of the giants of the seas on their journeys, from a shipyard in China to a fully automated terminal in Rotterdam, where up to 23,000 containers are processed per week, to the ALP Striker, the most powerful oceangoing tug in the world pulling a 31,000-tonne oil rig across the ocean.
But can anything be done to make shipping more environmentally friendly, could our ferries be powered by wind alone, or could gas or hydrogen be the technology of the future for superships?
Tha soithichean riatanach dha eaconamaidh na cruinne. Mar a bhios iad a' siubhal nan cuantan, a' giùlan 90% de bhathair an t-saoghail, bidh iad a' giullachd barrachd gas blà thachaidh na bhios dùthaich meud Na Gearmailt. Leanaidh am prògram seo cuid de dh'fhuamhairean nan cuantan air an turais, bho ghà rradh shoithichean ann an Sìona gu tèirmineal fèin-obraichte ann an Rotterdam, far am bi suas ri 23,000 cointèinear gan là imhseachadh gach seachdain, chun ALP Striker, am bà ta slaodaidh as treasa a bhios a' dol gu muir, is i a' slaodadh clà r-ola anns a bheil 31,000 tunna thar a' chuain. Ach an gabh soithichean an dèanamh nas fheà rr dhan à rainneachd? An urrainn dha aiseagan seòladh fo neart na gaoithe a-mhà in, neo an e teicneòlas gas neo haidhdreaidean a chleachdas na mòr-shoithichean san à m ri teachd?
