This month he is joined by poet Paul Chambers and writer and critic Caragh Medlicott. The panel explore an ambitious and fascinating Radio 4 documentary series from Swansea-born broadcaster and journalist Jude Rogers - A Life in Music, which investigates the role music plays during our various stages of life.
They've been reading The Fortune Men, Nadifa Mohamed's evocative novel based on the true story of the tragic injustice served upon Mahmoud Mattan, hanged for a murder he did not commit in Tiger Bay in 1952.
In a first for the show, Gary and his fellow critics review an Instagram account - the digital platform for one of Wales’ most outspoken and vital visual artists, Bedwyr Williams.
And they give their verdict on the new album from Wales' global pop export Marina Diamandis - Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land.
