As the Arbroath Festival today kicks off its two and a half month run in and around the town, we鈥檒l be hearing from the festival director and two of the artists involved. Jeni Reid merges modern images of Arbroath with 19th Century prints of the Caribbean to present the many layers of history that connect Arbroath鈥檚 industrial heritage to the West Indies and transatlantic trade of enslaved people. And Angus Farquhar鈥檚 Over Lunan is an extraordinary sound and visual promenade performance in the dunes of Lunan Bay in Angus, Scotland.

We hear about the Summer of Reading challenge for young readers launched by the magazine The Week Junior, which opens tomorrow.

And it's up to North Uist to find out about the decommissioned school building that's finding a new lease of life as an artist's studio.
