A birthday tribute to Bob Dylan

Cerys pays tribute to Bob Dylan, looking back at his first ten albums, his inspirations and influences. Plus Clinton Heylin on researching his new book The Double Life of Bob Dylan

Cerys pays tribute to Bob Dylan, as he celebrates his 80th birthday. Cerys explores some of Dylan's writing inspirations and shines a light on the talent he's shared with the world since his debut album in 1962. Throughout the show Cerys covers at least 10 of his albums in chronological order as she weaves a musical map to his career featuring Woody Guthrie, Sineah Lohan, Elmore James and poetry from Dylan Thomas.

Cerys speaks to Clinton Heylin, the author of The Double Life of Bob Dylan: 1941-1966 A Restless Hungry Feeling. After Bob Dylan sold his personal archive in 2016, Clinton who has written extensively about Bob Dylan was asked to assess the material. The new book covers his findings and how that changed his understanding of the artist and his creative process. Clinton shares insight into pivotal points in Bob's career, from arriving in New York and embracing the folk scene to when he went electric at Newport in 1965.
