Samantha Morton
Miranda Sawyer joins Samantha Morton at her countryside home to talk key musical moments in her life including her latest album project with Richard Russell Daffodils and Dirt.
Samantha Morton is one of the finest screen actors of her generation. A double Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe and BAFTA winner, she has been acting since the early 90s in Hollywood, independent movies and TV. Her breakthrough role was in Lynne Ramsay’s Morvern Callar, and she went on to star in Minority Report with Tom Cruise, Woody Allen’s Sweet and Lowdown, Elizabeth the Golden Age, and the TV series Harlots and The Walking Dead. She has recently starred in the Oscar-winning film The Whale, as an ex-assistant to Harvey Weinstein in She Said, and as Catherine DeMedici in TV series The Serpent Queen.
Alongside her acting work, Samantha is passionate about music and recently recorded an album, ‘Daffodils and Dirt’, with XL’s Richard Russell, which they will be taking on tour next year. Miranda joins her at home in her studio to talk about how the album project came about, working with Jason Pierce from Spiritualized on her directorial debut The Unloved, the playlists that get her into the character of Catherine De Medici in the Serpent Queen, what it was like being one of the few young actors to publicly speak up about Harvey Weinstein’s bullying behaviour, and how she alphabetizes her record collection.
