Live from St. David's Hall in Cardiff, soprano Ailish Tynan and pianist Iain Burnside perform songs by Schubert, Ives and Welsh composers, Dilys Elwyn-Edwards and Ivor Novello.

Live from St. David's Hall in Cardiff, as part of a week-long focus on music-making in the Welsh capital, soprano Ailish Tynan and pianist Iain Burnside perform a contrasting programme of songs. A sequence of Schubert lieder begins with his delightful Serenade. Charles Ives comes next, with two texts by Ives recalling a happy event and by contrast another one that is rather sad. "In Faery, a charming trilogy of songs, is by Welsh composer Dilys Elwyn-Edwards, an accomplished song-writer who died in 2012. Then, as winter draws to a close, and the springtime beckons, Cardiff-born Ivor Novello's "Waltz of my heart" makes an uplifting finale to a selection of three popular melodies.
