Ón Taobhlíne
Móragallamh le Charlie Mac Íomhair faoina shaol peile agus sacair.
Charlie McGeever reflects on a life in Gaelic football and soccer.
Is beag bainisteoir amuigh ansin a dtiocfadh leo a rá go raibh siad i mbun foirne i gcluiche ceannais uile-Éireann agus cluiche ceannais sacair Corn FAI. Ach níl ansin ach ceann amháin de na rudaí atá bainte amach ag Charlie McGeever sa dá spórt, agus murach an gortú tubaisteach a bhuail é agus é go measartha óg, bheadh an deis aige níos mó fós a dhéanamh. Agus é ag fás aníos faoin tuath i nGaeltacht Thír Chonaill, i gceantar ina raibh ceangal láidir le Glaschú, bhí liathróid peile nó liathróid sacair ina ghlac aige gach deis a fuair sé. Go dtí an lá atá inniu ann, tá baint aige go fóill leis an dá spórt, agus é anois lonnaithe i gContae Thiobraid Árainn lena chlann. Is uaidh sin a labhair sé le Fearghal Mag Uiginn don eagrán speisialta seo de Ón Taobhlíne.
There aren’t many managers who can say they have taken charge of teams in both an FAI Cup final and an All-Ireland football final. But Charlie McGeever is one. Growing up in rural Donegal with strong links to Glasgow, the sports of soccer and Gaelic football were interchangeable and complementary to each other in his development as a player. Despite his footballing career being hampered by injury at a young age, he continued to enjoy playing a part in both sports both on and off the field, right up to the present day. He is now based in Tipperary with his family and he spoke to us from there for this special edition of Ón Taobhlíne with Fearghal Mag Uiginn.
