Bing & Ruth is a minimalist/ambient music ensemble from Brooklyn, New York, led by pianist David Moore. He formed the group in 2006. They released the first album 'City Lake' in 2010, at which time the collective featured 11 members. By the time of the 2nd album 'Tomorrow Was The Golden Age' in 2010 they were a 7 piece. In 2016, they signed to 4AD records and released their 3rd album 'No Home of the Mind'the following year. By this time they were the 5 piece ensemble that exists today.
On the new album 'Species', David Moore writes: In the year I spent writing the songs that would become ‘Species’ I fell deeply in love with the desert. At the same time, I fell deeply in love with running -the trance of one foot in front of the other mirroring the endless, arid, desert landscape. Upon reflection, I suppose what I was moving towards was a way to feel small -a way to feel deeply humble. I had always made music in search of some sort of inner peace, but I no longer cared so much to comfort myself. I’d grown tired, it seemed, of looking inward. I wanted to look nowhere.
'Pinch an inch' is Tom sharing 30 minutes of music from the John Peel archive, which lives at his family home in Suffolk. He grabs a random inch of vinyl from the 7" and 12" inch sheds. It's a fascinating voyage of discovery, and what better way to find new old favourite music.
