Mary Anne celebrates Halloween with the overlords of experimental metal, Sunn O))) and in a watershed moment for radio, we have highlights from the band's first session for 6. Yes, you read that right, the mighty Sunn O))) are recording a session for Mary Anne Hobbs down at the 麻豆社's Maida Vale studios. The whole event will be broadcast in Mary Anne's Recommends show at midnight on Wednesday of this week and we'll be chatting to Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson about the experience.

Known for their beautiful blend of black metal, doom, noise, and the darker ends of ambient sounds, Sunn O))) can easily be described as one of the most influential bands of their generation. Witnessing them play live is an experience like no other and if we can explore even seven percent of that experience at Maida Vale then you dear listeners, are in for a very special treat.

The band released their fourth album Life Metal in April this year and it's follow up Pyroclasts is available for pre-order now. With the release of Life Metal, Sunn O))) revealed that they had one main ambition, which was "to record Sunn O))) with Steve Albini in his Electrical Audio studio". Happily, Steve took the call, said "Sure, this will be fun. I have no idea what is going to happen."

Life Metal is atmospheric and intense, because Sunn O))) are atmospheric and intense. The depth of their sound really can't be described with words, so the best thing to do is to tune in, listen and let them push your speakers to their limit.
