The Children's Commissioner for England has called for tougher regulations to protect children playing online games. In a new report, children said they felt like they were gambling when they were opening loot boxes in games like Fifa, Call of Duty and Overwatch.
Nine out of ten children in the UK play games online. Some games have features like loot boxes. You sometimes pay to open them and have no idea what's inside. The Commissioner says that carries the risk and the thrill of gambling.
Also in the report, some children say they feel addicted to gaming and know they spend too long playing. They also report being bullied by others playing games online.
But other children say they have positive experiences of playing games. That they enjoy playing with their friends, and it encourages them to think strategically.
