Wayde Van Niekerk is the star attraction in Monaco with the men鈥檚 400m Olympic and world champion and world record holder making his eagerly awaited return after injury. The 26-year-old South African has not raced on the global stage since suffering a serious knee injury in October 2017.
Other standout names include two-time world champion Dafne Schippers in the women鈥檚 200m. Schippers is up against Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo and double world sprint silver medallist Marie-Josee Ta Lou - both Miller-Uibo and Ta Lou won in Monaco 12 months ago. The men鈥檚 pole vault, featuring young sensation Armand Duplantis, and men鈥檚 100m also promise to be world class events.
The highlight from last year鈥檚 meeting came in the women's 3,000m steeplechase as Beatrice Chepkoech set a new world record of 8:44.32, taking over eight seconds on the previous best mark.
