No-deal Brexit 'could put 40,000 jobs at risk' in NI - that's according to new analysis from Stormont's Department for the Economy.
A no-deal Brexit could put 40,000 jobs at risk in Northern Ireland, according to new analysis from Stormont's Department for the Economy. The report says many jobs could 'disappear almost overnight, especially in industries such as agri-food and haulage'. It also warns of 'immediate and severe consequences' for NI competitiveness. Vinny was joined by businessman and NI Conservative member Irwin Armstrong, commentator Phil Kelly and Director of NI Retail Consortium Aodh谩n Connolly.
Also on the programme, thousands of tyres have been removed from East Belfast bonfires this week in the run up to the Eleventh Night celebrations. Contractors acting on behalf of Belfast City Council removed 1800 tyres from a site in Lismore Street last Sunday. Then bonfire builders in East voluntarily took tyres off sites at Connswater and Avoniel. It's illegal to dump or burn tyres - under the law, retailers are supposed to store them securely and engage a registered waste company to dispose of them properly. The body responsible for enforcing the law is the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. Vinny spoke to PUP Cllr Billy Hutchinson and Green Party Cllr Rachel Woods.
Also on the programme, most of us will be familiar with our pretty shocking Road Safety Ads here. Almost half of adults surveyed think young drivers should be shown graphic images of accidents to shock them into less risky behaviour on the road. Nearly a third agreed that these should be shown to primary school children. That's according to new research from road safety campaigners, Brake. Is primary school too early to be shocked into the dangers of the road? Vinny spoke to former advertising executive David Lyle and Siobhan O'Connor from the Irish Mirror.
