Addictive video games, Zero waste shopping, Save v spend
The makers of Fortnite and FIFA give evidence to MPs investigating how 'addictive' video games can be. Plus save or spend? Which makes us happiest?
The makers of hit video games Fortnite and FIFA give evidence to MPs about how immersive and 'addictive' their games can be. EA and Epic Games have millions of fans worldwide, but there are concerns that aspects of the games' design make it hard for younger players to stay in control over how much they play, and how much they spend on in-game purchases. Winifred Robinson speaks to the Chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee, Damian Collins MP (Conservative) about how he plans to encourage the companies to promote the wellbeing of players.
The trend to buy "unpackaged" products has led to an increasing number of Zero-Waste shops on our high streets and online. They sell products loose by weight, or in sustainable packaging. Some supermarkets are even having a go at trialling this style of shopping in certain stores - including Waitrose and Morrisons. The supermarkets say the "unpackaged" products are priced lower than the packaged equivalent - but Zero Waste shopping often ends up costing more. Why is that - and can it ever become the mainstream way of doing the weekly shop?
And saving vs spending. New research reveals how our spending habits affect our happiness.
