The police say a man whose body was found inside a burning car in Derry at the weekend was probably still alive when the fire started.

The police have confirmed that the man whose body was found inside a burning car in Galliagh on Saturday was 18-year-old Caoimhin Cassidy and that they believe he was 'most likely still alive when the blaze started'. The teenager's body was found in the stolen Mazda on the Fairview Road in Derry after it had crashed into a lamp-post. A post-mortem examination revealed he had not been seriously injured in the collision. The police say the car was stolen in Oakfield Crescent hours earlier and had crossed the Donegal border several times before crashing.
