New 'intensified' political talks last just 25 minutes - what's going on at Stormont?
25 minutes. That's how long the "intensified talks" about restoring devolution lasted yesterday. That's 25 minutes more than the Secretary of State has taken to answer questions from the press recently. Karen Bradley has faced criticism recently from the NUJ for not taking any questions from journalists. And now both governments have gone silent. After yesterday's intense 25 minutes talk session, neither NI Secretary Karen Bradley nor Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney made any comment. So what's going on on the hill? Stephen got the views of commentator Alex Kane and Slugger O'Toole editor Mick Fealty.
Also on the programme, Belfast is one of the top 5 most congested cities in the entire UK. That's the claim from a new report. The TomTom Traffic Index, which is published today, puts Belfast joint 5th with motorists spending an average of 34% extra travel time stuck in traffic! So is it time we got out of our cars and embraced public transport? Stephen got the views of Green Party Belfast City Councillor 脕ine Groogan and commentator Frank Shivers.
And, sweets, crisps and fizzy drinks could soon be sold under cigarette-style plain packaging under plans revealed today. In moves to help combat the obesity epidemic, major brands such as Cadbury, Walkers Crisps, Coca-Cola and others would be forced to abandon their vibrant designs. Instead they would be compelled to use a uniform drab design intended to put off consumers as happened with cigarette packs. Simon Stevens, who is chief executive of the NHS, said last week that obesity was becoming the 'new smoking'. Would these moves work? Stephen got the views of commentator Emma Woolf and Irish Mirror columnist and personal trainer Siobhan O'Connor.
