Live Coverage Part 1
Live coverage of the start of the 39th London Marathon. Wheelchair athlete David Weir competes for an incredible 20th time, aiming to extend his record number of victories to nine.
Gabby Logan presents live coverage of the start of the 39th London Marathon, one of the best days of the British sporting year. Over 40,000 people are running the 26.2 miles coming from all abilities, ages and backgrounds, and last year’s runners helped raise a staggering £63.7m for charity.
The men’s elite field contains Great Britain’s Olympic legend Sir Mo Farah, aiming to win the race for the first time, but he is up against arguably the greatest marathon runner of all time in world record holder Eliud Kipchoge. The women’s race is set to be fiercely contested as three-time winner Mary Keitany aims to dethrone defending champion Vivian Cheruiyot. Wheelchair athlete David Weir competes for an incredible 20th time, aiming to extend his record number of victories to nine.
Reporting along the 26.2 mile route are Radzi Chinyanganya, Jeanette Kwakye, Steve Brown and JJ Chalmers, while commentary is provided by Steve Cram, Andrew Cotter, six-time London Marathon wheelchair race winner Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Paula Radcliffe – who herself set the women’s marathon world record 16 years ago.
